SU-76i (k) - Soviet self-propelled artillery gun.
SU-76i - average Soviet self-propelled artillery unit (SAU) class assault weapons on the basis of the Red Army captured German tank Pz Kpfw III and StuG III. The index "i" in the designation Su-76i denotes a foreign base for self-propelled guns. Machines of this series produced by brand Mytishschinsky engineering plant № 37 from March 1943.
On self-propelled gun was set 76,2 mm C-1. This gun was designed based on a design tank gun F-34 (which were equipped with T-34 tanks) and it was very cheap to manufacture.
Production of Su-76I was halted in late November 1943.
The decision to cease production of SU-76i was due mainly to the inability to increase production of SAU and anticipation of difficulties with the repair of damaged self-propelled guns in combat, since the flow of the chassis of captured German tanks of old samples, not only did not increase, but also markedly reduced. All were released 201 SAU SU-76i (including 20 command vehicles), who participated in the battles of 1943-44. But because of small size and problems with spare parts have gradually disappeared from the offices of the Red Army.
