Women's Battalion of Death of Maria Botchkareva / Size - 30 mm
Sculptor - Michael Presnukhin
After the overthrow of the Tsar and the coming to power of the Provisional Government in Russia were created new military units - revolutionary assault battalions and "death" battalions. The members of such units were only volunteers, who were ready by example to strengthen the rest of the Russian army on the German front. During this period the Russian army was rapidly losing combat capability under the influence of agitation from various leftist parties.
Among these military units was formed an unique formation - the female death battalions. The initiative to create the first of such battalions came from Maria Bochkareva - a female volunteer, who had already participated in the fighting as an ordinary soldier, who had received the highest awards for a soldier of the Russian Empire.
Of course, these units were mostly of agitational value. But the 1st Women Battalion of Death, commanded by Maria Botchkareva, actually participated in combat against German forces.
During the Bolshevik Revolution of October 1917 another of these battalions - the 1st Petrograd Women's Battalion, took part in a failed protection of the Provisional Government during the storming of the Winter Palace.
