Despite popular belief, the new uniform of the 1919 model was poorly distributed in the Red Army during the Civil War (with the possible exception of cloth helmets - budenovkas). Only a few military units were able to get it.
One of these units was the 11th cavalry division (61st and 66th cavalry regiments), in the winter of 1919, in the area of Kastornaya station, it joined Budyonny's cavalry corps. The division was formed from volunteer workers from the city of Tula and its environs. Most of them during the First World War served in the cavalry units.
According to eyewitnesses, the division was well equipped: long caftans arr. 1919 made of green cloth, winter helmets of the 1919 model with large blue stars, hussar mentics (color unknown, but according to indirect data - blue with white cords), bright red trousers.
