The new uniform for the Red Army was approved in 1919. It was based on sketches of the famous Russian artist Vasnetsov. The inspiration was the uniform of the old Russian regular warriors "Streltsy", and the helmet of the Russian knights. Often, in accordance with the approved prototype, the uniform of the old, still imperial, sample (greatcoat, gymnastyorka) was also changed, which we see in the version presented on the figures.
The first military units to receive a complete new uniform appeared in 1920 and took part in the rout of the Crimean group of General Wrangel and in the Soviet-Polish War.
