Greek Fokian hoplite, from 4 century BC

Closely serried battle construction - phalanx, were heavily armed infantrymen - hoplites. Accordingly, the main native troops in the Greek armies became a heavily infantry, which is manned by the wealthy and middle class of free citizens and armed at their own expense.

A warrior dressed in traditional for this period, white linen suit of armor, reinforced with bronze scales laterally. Especially important was the defense side torso for the hoplites, located in the extreme right-wing ranks of the phalanx, as they were not protected by shields neighbors on the line. On the head of a bronze Corinthian helmet, which is out of combat were shifted to the back. Spear has an iron tip and a bronze inflow. Fokida hoplites participated in the legendary defense of Thermopylae in the detachment Spartan King Leonidas in 480 BC.
